Best Hotel In Moldova – It’s not every day that design-oriented boutique hotels open in Chisinau, the capital of Moldova. In fact, it took almost 15 years for the tablet to find the opportunity to represent the Eastern European republics. But hotels like Bird’s Design Hotel are enough to change all this. A luxury boutique hotel, from its monumental contemporary facade to its stylish minimalist rooms, an inspired fusion of international contemporary design and traditional Moldovan art and culture.

Visually everything is by Italian architect Luca Scacchetti. His work highlights the close historical relationship between Italy and Moldova. Rooms feature Tibetan-style handmade Moldovan carpets, high-design furniture from Poltrona Fro and lighting from Flos, both contemporary Italian interests. Signature Rooms and Suites add freestanding bathtubs, while Prestige Suites feature their own Jacuzzis as well as design elements from Milanese luxury home design chief Antonio Citerio.

In fact, thanks to our diligent wellness, Michelin has the legendary Michelin Official Hotel. Michelin has always been the benchmark for gastronomy. Now hotels make that oath. The National Hotel is located in the heart of Chisinau, at the top of Stéphane Celle Mare Blvd, next to the United Nations Square (Piata Natiunilor Unite), one of the main thoroughfares. Proximity to various active buildings such as Chisinau Hotel, National Academy of Sciences and Siuflia Church. A small square with several fountains is in front of the building. According to the regional urban planning regulations of Chisinau, the building is located in the central administrative district (Sectorul administrative center).

The National Hotel is a former tourist hotel designed by architects A. Gorbantsov and V. Shalaginov and completed in 1974. The National Hotel was part of the Soviet hotel chain “Intourist” until 1992 and was owned by the state until 1992. Privatized after 2006. As a functional feature, the ground floor and mezzanine contain the reception area, the main transport area and the public catering area. These spaces are treated differently from floors for accommodation. Open space predominates, mezzanines rise to columns and horizontality is emphasized by numerous window frames and large concrete railings. All these characteristics are characteristic of modernism. Consisting of the first floor and 15 upper floors, this hotel is one of the most famous hotels in Chisinau.

A Bereska store is located on the ground floor of the former Intourist Hotel. Bereska was the first chain of trade stores created in 1961 by order of the Council of Ministers of the Soviet Union. In such shops you can find traditional souvenirs: vodka, caviar, folk art. Transactions were made in foreign currency and customers were only foreigners. The “Bereska” chain remained open until the late 1980s, when Mikhail Gorbachev declared war on perestroika-era privileges.

In addition, the Intourist Hotel also operated several popular bars during its busy hours (the Lido Bar on the ground floor, another one on top of the building). Another important landmark is the Intourist restaurant which is part of the hotel complex. During the Soviet era, the Intourist restaurant was the busiest place in the city. MSST’s famous artistes perform lavish parties and weddings with songs. The restaurant is located on the south side of Stéphane Selle Mare Boulevard, in continuation of the National Hotel. After privatization, the former dining hall was used as a casino and private party space.

Currently the building is in an aged condition. The interior walls of the building are dirty, the plaster is destroyed, the interior furniture is missing, and many of the exterior windows are broken. The property’s internal stair rails and furniture have been vandalized or stolen.

National Hotel is owned by Alpha Engineering Company and its shares are 83.25%. Alpha – Engineering has been awarded the contract to carry out renovation and modernization works to convert the building into a five-star hotel. The project also includes the renovation of the square in front of the building. Although the company failed to fulfill its contractual obligations, the privatization contract was extended for several years and the renovation work continued to be delayed. Today, the building remains an empty concrete shell, forgotten by passers-by.

The new owners have delayed the restoration of the monument for seven years without fulfilling their contractual obligations and are now preparing to demolish it. Today, the safety of the building is no longer guaranteed and the hotel is occupied by the homeless as the sanitary conditions are very poor. The National Hotel is an example of socialist modernist architecture and represents a building that should be restored and reintroduced to the Moldavian tourist circuit.
