It’s easy to get to the Lower Emerald Pool from Zion Lodge. Beyond that, the trail begins to climb, but the scenery improves. The last emerald pool is more difficult to climb, but it takes you to a large pool surrounded on three sides by high cliffs.

The most common way to climb Emerald Pool is through Zion Park. You can also access the Grotto Pond via the Kayenta Trail.

Tim and I hiked Emerald Pools on the Kayenta Trail, maybe we had a bad time but we didn’t enjoy the hike. It was hot, it was crowded and we were not impressed with the Upper Emerald Pool. If you want a short but scenic hike in Zion, we recommend the Canyon Overlook Trail above Emerald Pond.
